  • Should I choose City and Guilds or EAL?

Where qualifications are offered by both awarding organisations, we endeavour to give you the choice of which you’d like to do. You’ll attend the same course, with the same content and high-quality training. The only difference is the exam you’ll sit and the endorsing body on your certificate.

City and Guilds has long been the name normally associated with electrotechnical qualifications but EAL have been steadily increasing the number of qualifications they offer. EAL started with qualifications in the engineering and rail industries before branching into building services. We have been using EAL qualifications for our in-house apprentices for over a decade.

Qualifications from either awarding organisation are accepted by CPS bodies or for MCS accreditation. City & Guilds and EAL often work together on new qualifications to ensure they are comparable. Additionally, there are some qualifications such as Solar PV and Electrical Energy Storage Systems that are only available with EAL at present.

Where there is a difference in registration fees we pass the savings on to you. Generally, this means that the EAL qualification will cost you slightly less but still enable you to do the same as the City and Guilds qualification.
