Course overview

The course covers the use of the IET Code of Practice and how to interpret its guidance to ensure that all EV charging points comply with the relevant requirements. The course is followed by an online multiple-choice exam on the same day. 


Upon successful completion, you should be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the latest EV charging requirements. This qualification can also be used as proof of training as part of becoming a Gov.UK OZEV Registered Installer.

    • Familiarisation with the layout and contents of the IET Code of Practice 
    • Pre-work surveys for EV installations
    • Electrical requirements and protective measures for EV charging installations
    • EV installation circuit design
    • Inspection, testing and commissioning of EV installations
    • Notification requirements

  • Course Assessment

    An online, open-book multiple choice exam.

  • Who is this course for?

    • This course is for competent electricians looking to further their knowledge. This qualification can be used to register as an authorised installer under the OZEV grant scheme. 
    • Minimum age requirement is 18.

    You must hold a current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification and one of the following qualifications:


    • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)
    • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance)
    • Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification
    • Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker
    • Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services - Electrical Installation (Building and Structures)
    • Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification
    • Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings
    • EAL Building Services Engineering (Level 3) - Electrotechnical Installation
    • Equivalent historical qualifications. See EAS Table 4B/4C and the EAS Qualifications Guide
    • Or hold an ECS Gold Card, as a JIB Electrician or Approved Electrician

    Please note: Standalone vocationally related qualifications (technical certificates) are not acceptable as proof of competence.

    The initial course fee covers the cost of the first attempt at a course exam or practical assessment. If you are unsuccessful on your first attempt, we will advise you on how to request a resit and inform you about the associated cost.
