Apprenticeship

The full apprenticeship is the recommended route for those who are new to the electrical industry. It is funded by the UK Government for eligible learners, but it requires apprentices to be in full-time employment within the sector.

However, this may not be suitable for everyone as the earnings may only be the apprentice minimum wage for at least the first year of the apprenticeship (dependent upon age). For more information, please visit our apprenticeships page.

Self-Funded

For career changers, and those not eligible for an apprenticeship, the self-funded route may be more appropriate. This enables the electrical technical certificates to be gained by attending college one day per week. Work in the electrical industry isn’t required during this stage, although it can be helpful.

The next step, the on-site NVQ, requires workplace evidence and work within the electrical industry will be needed. Upon completion of the NVQ, the AM2 competence assessment can be taken. Further details on these can be found in this section.

Experienced Worker Assessment

The Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) is designed for individuals who have Level 3 qualifications but have not completed a full apprenticeship. To be eligible for this route, delegates must have five years of experience after their qualification. Additionally, delegates must currently be employed in the electrical sector with the opportunity to provide performance unit evidence that covers all criteria. You can find more information on The Experienced Worker Qualification.
