The 2391-52 course is a comprehensive program that covers both initial and periodic inspection and testing. It is an ideal course for experienced electricians who have not obtained formal qualifications in inspection and testing or those who wish to refresh their skills.


The course provides theoretical training to help you become familiar with Guidance Note 3. Additionally, we offer an optional practical training day and assessment day to help refresh your knowledge and boost your confidence.

Course overview

This course is delivered over six days and includes an online assessment, a one-day practical refresher and a one-day practical assessment. There are also assignments to be completed between sessions.


Upon successful completion, you should be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the inspection and testing requirements of BS7671 and be able to assess electrical installations for safety and compliance.

  • What will I learn in this course?

    • Familiarisation with the layout and contents of Guidance Note 3
    • How to confirm the compliance of installations with BS7671
    • How to assess the safety of electrical installations
    • Responsibilities and health & safety requirements
    • Safe working, including safe isolation and protecting vulnerable electrical equipment
    • Requirements for initial verification of electrical installations
    • Requirements for periodic inspection and testing of installations
    • Completion of inspection and testing documentation (EIC/EICR/MEIWC)
  • Course Assessment

    • Two hours online multiple-choice exam (open book)
    • Two practical assessments and a written assignment (open book) taking place on separate assessment day
  • Who is this course for?

    • This is an advanced course and only suitable for experienced electricians with previous testing experience.
    • This qualification, or similar, is normally a requirement for registering under a CPS or as a QS.
    • Delegates should have ideally completed an up-to-date Wiring Regulations qualification and have a good working knowledge of testing.
    • The minimum age requirement is 18.

  • Course Timings

    The course is delivered one day per week over four weeks in a classroom at our Gloucester training centre with the training day on week five. Practical assessments are on a separate day and carried out on an agreed date after delegates have passed the online exam. There are also assignments to be completed between sessions on weeks 1-4.

    The initial course fee covers the cost of the first attempt at a course exam or practical assessment. If you are unsuccessful on your first attempt, we will advise you on how to request a resit and inform you about the associated cost.
